The f/1.4 maximum aperture opens creative doors in any lighting situation — shoot confidently at dusk, indoors, or under stage lights while crafting that silky, subject-isolating background blur the nine-blade circular diaphragm makes beautifully smooth. One Advanced Aspherical (AA) element and two additional aspherical elements keep astigmatism, coma, and field curvature firmly in check across the entire frame.

A direct drive Super Sonic wave Motor (SSM) and internal focusing mechanism deliver autofocus that is fast, near-silent, and precise. The physical aperture ring de-clicks for smooth, quiet iris transitions during video, while an on-barrel AF/MF switch puts tactile control right at your fingertips. Rubberized control rings and a dust- and moisture-resistant sealed body mean this lens performs when conditions don't cooperate. On APS-C bodies, it equivalently becomes a 52.5mm portrait-friendly focal length.
